RIPLEY, W.Va. (AP) - Police say a Kanawha County teenager drowned in a lake in Jackson County.
Sheriff Tony Boggs says the accident occurred Sunday afternoon on the grounds of the Parchment Valley West Virginia Baptist Conference Center near Ripley.
Boggs identified the victim on Monday as 15-year-old Shawn Jones Jr. of Charleston. Jones was a student at Stonewall Jackson Middle School in Charleston.
Boggs says Jones and another boy were in a kayak that capsized. The other boy was able to swim to shore.
The sheriff says Jones was with a church group visiting the center.

It happened on a lake by the Parchment Valley Conference Center in Ripley around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Emergency responders say a 13-year-old boy from Charleston went under after a kayak overturned. He was in the water with another teen when the kayak flipped. That boy was OK.
The victim was on a retreat with a Charleston-area church.
Divers came from Ripley, Belle, Ravenswood, and Charleston to find the boy. They recovered his body after 6 p.m.
The boy's name has not been released.
