Bringing the Derby to Marietta

By  |

UPDATE: 5/5/2012

Saturday was the 2nd Marietta Derby Trot.

Local vendors and store owners open their doors and participate in events to get people downtown. Many restaurants have Kentucky favorites on the menu, and don't forget the classic derby drink...a mint julep.

It's fun way to drum up support for local small businesses.

"We try to make it so that it's fun for the whole family if they want to make a day of it. Spend a couple hours. They can meander up and down Front Street, Butler Street, and Second Street and they can enjoy seeing what all the stores do have to offer. There's still thriving businesses downtown that really need the support of the community," says Twisted Sisters Boutique Manager Suzi Hendrickson.

They hope to make this an annual event downtown with more vendors participating each year.

Throw on a hat and dress the part. Downtown Marietta will be hosting it's own small town version of the Kentucky Derby with the Marietta Derby Trot.

Nearly thirty restaurants and shops will be participating with contests, specials, and entertainment. Many shops are open nine to five but some restaurants have extended hours.

This year the event is being organized by Twisted Sisters and Top Drawer Furniture.

Anyone attending can meet Mallory from ReStore Marietta at Pocket Park (directly across from Twisted Sister), she will have information on the day and events.
