Car Seat Safety

Make sure you have a car seat that fits your child properly; it's the law and could save their life.

Today a car seat safety drive-through helped parents in the Grand Central Mall parking lot.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, car crashes are a leading killer of children one to 12 years old in the United States.

The best way to protect them in the car is to put them in the right seat, at the right time, and use it the right way.

“It's important because if you look at it probably 90 percent of child safety seats have some type of incorrect installation to them," says Toni Tiano, coordinator of the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Highway Safety Program. "We want to make sure that the seats are installed safely in case the child is in an accident."

Tiano says all seats have to be inspected. As long as it has the seal from NHTSA that says it meets standards it's fine.

She adds that some of the expensive seats just have more bells and whistles but as far as safety, they really aren't any different.
