Major changes are coming for one Ohio State Route in Marietta.

The Ohio Department of Transportation held a meeting Wednesday afternoon about relocating State Route 26.

Local councilmen and county commissioners were on hand looking at the changes being proposed to the local highway system.

The rerouting will begin at the intersection of Greene and Acme Streets.

ODOT says the signs of Route 26 will be removed from Third and Greene streets while the abandonment takes place on Greene and east of Seventh Street.

This means the highway will no longer coincide with the alignment of Greene to the west of Acme.

"It's a logical change because it's reflecting the existing traffic pattern and there's more traffic that comes down Acme Street now than what continues out Greene Street," says ODOT Environmental Coordinator, Anthony Durm.

Improvements on the intersection at Pike and Acme Streets will begin later this year.

It will provide an extra left turning lane towards the interstate.

All changes to Route 26 will begin this year at a later date.

If you have any questions or comments on the rerouting, contact ODOT Transportation Engineer, Tony Durm, at 740-568-4307 or email at tony.durm@dot.state.oh.us.
