The Local Emergency Planning Committee requires plants to have a series of four annual drills.

Tuesday, Solvay Specialty Polymers held the third of those drills.

The scenario involved a leak in a tanker truck, in which the driver and a plant employee are overcome by its cargo.

"It benefits Solvay and all our employees, but it also benefits all of the emergency response agencies," says Wally Kandel, Plant Manager. "Because they have to work together when something like this actually happens. I't a good practice time when everything is a drill, you work at a drill pace for when something actually does happen."

Agencies taking part in the drill included the Marietta Hazmat team, the Warren Volunteer Fire Department and Washington County Emergency Management Services.
