Marietta College is holding an event to raise money for childhood cancer research. Some students and even coaches will be shaving their heads as well.
It's Friday, April 5, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.
This is a head shaving event to raise money for childhood cancer research.
You don't have to shave your own head but they do ask for your donations and support. Along with the head shaving there will be inflatables for the kids, ice cream, music by DJ Correct, and prizes.
"Shavees" and volunteers will be getting a t-shirt.
Some of who have already committed to shaving their head include: the only female volunteer, Wendy Theiman, Director Larry Hiser, Coach Kenny, Coach Buchiet, Coach Vivian, Jacob Tidewell and Dash McNeal. They had hoped to get 50 people to shave their head all together and they well surpassed that number within days of announcing the event.
Three to four certified barbers from the Muskingum Barber Shop have agreed to volunteer their time during the event.
The group originally set a goal of $5,000, but they have already received $8,000 in donations!!
There is a group at Belpre High that has already raised about $1,500 toward the goal and so far.
It's all been organized by student Tyler Bates and Zane Eschbaugh through the St. Baldrick's Foundation. They have also teamed up with the campus Colleges Against Cancer organization
Organizers thank all the "shavees," volunteers, the Marietta College community, and Belpre High School for all the effort and support.
