Deer Gun Season Starts in West Virginia

More Video...

For hunters, the "most wonderful time of the year" has nothing to do with the holidays.

Monday was the start of gun-buck season in West Virginia.

It got off to a slow and chilly start.

But for some hunters, that wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

It means deer move around a little more than usual, making them an easy target for some hunters.

There were six and eight-point bucks captured Monday morning.

The season means big bucks of a different kind to the businesses which check in what the hunters bring in.

"There's a lot of hunters out here, and it's convenient because we're open 24 hours a day, and a lot of people stop here on a regular basis, anyway," says Beth Curry, an employee of Pifer's BP.

The West Virginia Department of Natural Resources estimates this year's buck kill should be similar to the total for last year.

And the season itself continues through the first week of December.

The second week almost exactly coincides with Ohio's deer-gun season, which begins next Monday.
