The summer of 2012 will long be defined by a couple of hours in the early evening of June 29th.
And there are still parts of the area that haven't fully recovered by the "derecho" that ripped through the valley.
President Obama Monday announced a major disaster declaration for Ohio, ordering federal aid for areas affected by those severe storms.
The aid covers three dozen counties, with money available on a cost-sharing basis for state and local governments and some private non-profit organizations.
Although things are largely back to normal, you can still find damage if you look closely-in communities such as Belpre.
"We have not brought in the mulching machine yet to get rid of all the big trees and trunks, but we will, probably in September, bring that outifit in", says Mayor Mike Lorentz, whose city not only suffered damage, but whose residents were without power as long as four days. "( Howes Grove Park) is still in some disarray, because of the shelter being down. The carport at the Senior Citizens Center was damaged, so there's still more to do. But we were blessed in that we're just really out some $55-60,000."
In Ohio, damage from the late June storm has been estimated at $29 million, a figure which could go higher.
Meanwhile, West Virginia's largest power providers tell the Public Service Commission says their price tag for the storm is $172 million.
Appalachian Oower and first energy subsidiaries Mon Power and Potomac Edison replaced or repaired a combined 2700 power poles, more than 300 miles of wire and 1600 transformers after the storm.
The windstorm and subsequent storms left three people dead and more than 680,000 customers without electricity across the state.
The president last month issued a disaster declaration to cover emergency costs in 45 West Virginia counties.
However, the Federal Emergency Management Agency denied assistance to individuals for their losses during the storm.
In early August, the members of West Virginia's congressional delegation wrote the president, protesting FEMA's decision.
