It's a trip they look forward to all year. The Etta Express are headed to the Regional's, putting them one step closer on their quest to become national champs, for the third year in a row.
"We definitely have the team to do it, we are all really excited. It's been a lot smaller group throughout the year so, it's a really tight nite group, and ya know I think definitely if we all play well we can do it," says Marietta catcher Alex Toth.
Following the O-A-C tournament this weekend, they received an at large bid to the Mid-East Regional tournament this week. The Etta Express is the number two seed and will be playing the number seven seed, Penn State-Behrend.
"It will be a real good test for us, the two seed is fair. I think for us, seeing as we didn't finish strong, we were ranked number one in the region all year but given that we didn't play that well late obviously we dropped two to two, which ya know, I think is fitting," said Marietta Head Coach Brian Brewer.
The Etta Express were in high spirits leaving Marietta College. Not only because they got the regional bid but because they have a community of fans who support them.
Ready to show their fans they can bring it home again the pioneers reflect on how much the community really helps them succeed.
"I don't think we get nearly as far as we do without the community support, just personally for the last four years, it's been an absolute pleasure playing in front of our fans and I really think it is one of the best places to be in Division 3, if not all of college baseball, " said first baseman, Evan Brockmeier
Taking it one game at a time, the Pio's hope this is only the beginning.
In Marietta, this is Danielle Staub reporting.
