The Ohio Highway Patrol says a fatal crash Sunday morning remains under investigation.
It happened a little before 11:30 Sunday morning in Marietta on Hadley Hollow Road.
The driver, 62 year old Virginia Lockhart, went off the left side of the road and hit a tree, flipping the car. It landed upside down in a small creek. She died from her injuries.
At first, the Highway patrol told WTAP News unsafe speed contributed to the crash, but Lockhart's family said Tuesday, the Highway Patrol believes Lockhart instead swerved to miss something in the roadway.
Lockhart's family described her as a sweet lady who always drove safely and never did anything wrong. A link to her obituary is posted below.

Police released the cause of a fatal accident Sunday morning in Marietta Township.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says it happened a little before 11:30 Sunday morning on Hadley Hollow Road in Marietta Township.
They say the driver, 62 year old Virginia Lockhart went off the left side of the road and hit a tree. The car flipped, and landed in a creek. Lockhart died from her injuries.
Police blame unsafe speed was the reason for the crash. They also say the roadway was dry and weather didn't play a factor. Drugs and alcohol are also not suspected.
The road was closed for nearly two hours because of the crash.
An accident in Washington County leaves one person dead Sunday morning.
