Last weekend Senator Jay Rockefeller broke the news of the reinstatement of the Navy Junior ROTC Program at Parkersburg High School.
Sadly, we're now saying goodbye to an old leader of that program.
Lieutenant Commander Charles Richard Combs died Friday at his home in Martinsville, Virginia.
Combs joined the Navy in 1962 and retired in 1986.
That's when he came to Parkersburg High School, where he taught the Navy Junior ROTC Program for 15 years.
Combs would later spend another 4 years teaching ROTC in Spain.
A Binghampton, New York native, Combs served in the Vietnam War and graduated from the University of West Florida.
He'll receive full military honors when he's laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
Commander Combs was 74-years-old.
