Gas Line Ruptures, Burns Several Acres in Washington County

By  |

Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks says a gas line ruptured just before 5 p.m. Monday, causing fire to burn several acres.

He says it happened off Route 7 in Newport.

A hunter spotted the fire from his tree stand.

The Little Muskingum, Newport and St. Marys Fire Departments responded.

Mincks says no injuries were reported.

He was not able to say exactly how many acres burned, but some of the land is in the Wayne National Forest.

Mincks says it's not clear at this point what caused the gas line to rupture.

He says it appears to be associated with an individual well.
