Students and teachers at one area high school will soon have a new building to call home.

St. Marys High School had its groundbreaking ceremony Saturday afternoon.

The new school will be relocated up the road on State Route 2 from the old one.

Pleasants County Superintendent, Michael Wells, says the old building which was built in the early 1900s, is out of date and it's time to upgrade their educational facilities.

St. Marys High is receiving funding of nearly $12,000,000 each from the Pleasants County Schools and the School Building Authority of West Virginia.

"We're really excited, it's been a long process. As I said, we persevered. I can't thank the staff and community enough. It's been a long time coming to build a state of the art, 21st century high school for our students," says Superintendent Wells.

BBL Carlton will be the Construction Managers of the new school while architects from Blackwood Associates will help supervise the project.

The school is expected to be done by December 2014 with hopes of moving into the new building in January 2015.
