UPDATE: 7-27-13 7:17PM

One Parkersburg church was on a mission on helping a local shelter that's known to housing the homeless.

Saturday was the Homeless Shelter Fundraiser event at the 14th Avenue Gospel Mission Church.

People got to enjoy live entertainment, activities for the kids and a corn hole tournament.

The church is raising money for the Latrobe Street Mission.

So far, they have raised about $2,000 for the homeless shelter.

"We've seen people holding signs, we've seen people live under bridges and the Latrobe Street Mission is bringing them off of the street into a very secure facility giving them food, giving them a warm place to stay and that's what our effort is. We're trying our very best to help with them," says 14th Avenue Gospel Mission Church Pastor, Tim Burch.

Members at the 14th Avenue Gospel Mission Church say they look forward to continue this fundraiser in the future.
One local church is reaching out to the Latrobe Street Mission by holding a fundraiser on Saturday in their honor.

14th Avenue Gospel Mission Church will be holding a Homeless Shelter Fundraiser Event.

There will be a silent auction, corn hole tournament and activities for the kids.

But most importantly, the church is raising money for the Latrobe Street Mission.

"The community we're serving isn't necessarily the most appealing part of the community, we deal with a lot of families but we also deal with a lot of drug addicts and alcoholics and we helped get them treatment. So it's really humbling that people in the community are reaching out that they're seeing a need in the community," says Latrobe Street Mission Executive Director and Founder, Shad Martin.
