One organization in Marietta is making sure needy families are well taken care of this winter.

The River City Farmers Market is accepting non-perishable food items for local pantries.

They're also accepting cash donations.

Those who do donate are given a free raffle ticket.

It's for a drawing for a 25 dollar market gift certificate.

They'll draw the winners on February 23rd.

This is the first day the farmers market began taking food items.

And they're planning on continuing to do so all year long.

"Well we have some members that work for the local food pantries and they were saying that this time of year it's hard to get donations to keep the supply out for the food pantries," says River City Farmers Market President, Gary Smith.

Non-perishable food items can be sent to the River City Farmers Market located at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Marietta.

The market is open every Saturday from 9am to 1pm.
