Mid-Ohio Valley residents will soon be heading outdoors to put up their holiday decorations but, before you break out the ladders, fire officials want to make sure you're safe while decorating.
Parkersburg Fire Department Chief Eric Taylor says use common sense and carefully follow safety instructions when you are using a ladder.
"There are several people that are injured and killed every year due to falls from ladders," Chief Taylor says. "We want to make sure that they always have an assistant with them at the base of the ladder to make sure its stable. Then, to not over reach and use the correct height on the ladder and try not to reach to far above their heads and fall."
Chief Taylor adds that it is a good idea to leave the eggnog alone until after all the decorations are up.
