Among the organizations that help people every day are firefighters and Saturday evening the St. Marys Volunteer Fire Department honored its old-timers.
Among those being honored was 50-year veteran Lee Ogdin. Ogdin is a former chief and was a founder of the EMS squad and he is also the firefighter who responded to the highest percentage of calls in the past year.
So what does it take to be a firefighter for 50 years? "You have to live in the same town and you also have to have a lot of dedication and good health to be a good fireman," he said.
2010 also marked the 75th anniversary of the creation of the St. Marys Volunteer Fire Department.
