One local company gives a generous donation to one of The Valleys own heroes.
Frames etc. inc. Optometric Physicians of Parkersburg presented Kyle Hockenberry's family with a check for two thousand dollars to go towards Kyle's smart home.
The local company gives back to veterans all year round but wanted to do something special for Veterans Day.
It all started with a Facebook post and grew into support from the entire community.
"We posted on Facebook that any veterans name that anybody listed, their own or family member would first of all, get a 20 percent discount and we would donate ten dollars to the Hockenberry Smart House for every name. We also decided that anyone who donated funds we would match each donation up to 100 dollars. Our goal was two thousand and we made it in about a day and a half," says Dr. Joanna Knapp.
She says she got the idea because of her family background in the military. Her father, Dr. Ronald Frame was a captain in the Army.
"We consider this an honor to be able to do this for one of our vets, Specialist Hockenberry," Dr. Frame says.
Dr. Knapp adds, "It hit me out of the blue. I thought, Kyle Hockenberry. He's our local hero here that we need to support and raise money for and put it to the Hockenberry smart house."
Kyle's family says they couldn't be more grateful to the entire community. "How we feel about all the support from everyone and we just can't thank everybody enough. There's no words," Kyle's grandmother, Barbara Hockenberry says.
She says they are at about 60 percent of the funds needed to complete Kyle's home.
Frames etc. inc. Optometric Physicians of Parkersburg offers free glasses and eye screenings to any military personnel either returning from serving, or heading overseas.
