Local Food Banks Receive Appliance Donations

Giving to local organizations so they can continue to pay it forward.

Friday, the Mountaineer Food Bank donated appliances to 14 area non-profit programs.

It's through the Walmart Fighting Hunger Together Facebook Campaign contest.

The Friendship Kitchen at North Parkersburg Baptist Church received a brand new ten burner stove.

With over five hundred meals served to people in Parkersburg a week, it's much needed for this food pantry.

"Our stove door had rusted off and the knobs were bad and then we couldn't use the oven," says Susie Meredith with the Friendship Kitchen.

"When I saw it...a ten burner stove for one thing and then two ovens. My cup just runneth over. It was a wonderful thing," Meredith adds.

In the Facebook contest, Parkersburg finished ninth among communities competing with nearly seven thousand votes.

"The money was reinvested in the county and will benefit all the agencies here in Wood County and these type of items are great because they're high need. They'll be able to expand their services and allow them to serve more people," says Mountaineer Food Bank Director of Development, Chad Morrison.
