Drug Sweep at PHS

Parkersburg High School went on lockdown today for a drug sweep.

We received several calls this morning from concerned parents about why their students were on a lockdown.

Parkersburg Police Chief Joe Martin says it's standard procedure to sweep the school and there was never a threat to public safety. Wood County school officials call it a planned lockdown.

Area authorities check the buildings and make sure everything is normal.

Again...there was no threat...just a standard planned drug sweep.

"It's something that we're very familiar with doing at the request of the administration at the school," Martin says. "We're glad to help out any way we can to make the school safer. So it's not really unfamiliar to us but I wouldn't necessarily call it routine."

They don't do these sweeps often but at the schools request police coordinate with other agencies to get their K-9 teams there.
