Making Workplace Safety A Priority

Workplace safety indoors and out.

Ninety people took time away from the job Friday to learn more about it.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Safety Council teamed up with an eastern Ohio safety organization for the day-long conference at Washington State Community College.

It's something that's taken on even more importance with the oil and gas drilling expansion.

"Those are dangerous jobs. Whether it's driving the trucks there, or out in the field. Those are safety-sensitive positions (for which) these classes would be beneficial," says Barbara Lockhart, President of the MOV Safety Council.

Sessions included emergency evacuation plans, safety training for new employees and drugs in the workplace.

The local safety council has 130 members.
