UPDATE 12/5/2013 2:05 PM

The mayor's office says all Marietta City Hall phone lines are working now.

This includes the police and fire departments, mayor's office and 911 lines.

City officials say AT&T was cleaning in the back alley behind city hall this week when they hit something, causing phone outages.

UPDATE 12/3/2013 4:45 PM

The Marietta City Building phone lines are back up and running currently, as they are rerouted through cell phones.

Tuesday morning all the phone lines were down, including both the police and fire departments.

All 911 calls are being re-routed to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Marietta Police Captain Jeff Waite says AT&T was cleaning in the back alley behind city hall when they hit something.

The exact cause of the outage is unknown at this time; however, crews are there working on the problem.

At this time you can call the normal numbers to reach someone.

"You always worry, especially the worst is in that transition time, till you can get the 911 transferred and lines back up, someone will be a problem we won't be aware of," says Captain Waite.

All calls will be answered by calling the normal numbers: 740-376-2007, 740-373-4141 or (4142) and fire 740-373-3131.

Captain Waite says the work on the actual phones lines into the building, however, could be a while.

UPDATE 12/3/2013 2:10 PM

While work continues on the phone lines at the Marietta City Building, officials say people can dial the numbers they would normally dial to reach city departments.

The calls have been routed to cell phones.

Marietta City Building phone lines are down, including both the Police and Fire Departments.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is taking 911 calls.

All non-emergency calls can be directed to 740-516-1123 or 740-516-0492, but they ask that the calls be held to a minimum. If the call can wait they ask that it does.

Marietta Police Captain Jeff Waite says there has been an issue with the phone line at the City Building.

All calls to the police and fire departments will not currently go through.

All 911 calls are being re-routed to the Sheriff's Office.
