The panels are up.

One local business partnered with Marietta College to save money and help students with hands on learning.

Pickering Energy Solutions installed 100 panels on the McCoy Athletic building on 7th Street.

This will be the second building on campus with solar panels.

Each brings 250 watts of reusable energy.

That's a $25,000 savings over the lifetime of the system.

Pickering says these systems will operate for about 25 years.

The college has the option to buy the system at some point in the future at a discounted price from the energy savings the panels create.

Big moves for Marietta College.

Saving energy by going solar.

Partnering with Pickering Energy Solutions the college will soon be getting more solar panels on two buildings.

Sixteen solar panels on Pioneer House, a dorm on Fourth Street that actually already has some solar panels and 100 panels on the McCoy Athletic facility on Seventh.

Professor Andy Grimm says this will save the college to start $1,000 a year.

And eventually they plan on buying the panels from the company in the coming years, saving the college around $5,000 a year.

The panels will be put on the buildings in June.
