Prosecutors say 29-year-old Newlen gave the 12-year-old a cell phone for sexting, as well as touched her inappropriately.
He could face a maximum sentence of six years in prison and will have to register as a tier 2 sex offender.
Sentencing is set for September 24.
Accused of raping a child, a Marietta man is behind bars tonight.

The victim's mother says Newlen touched her 12-year old daughter inappropriately and called to the police saying she was going to confront him.
Police say Newlen gave the child a cell phone for sexting. Police found multiple texts and photos violating the law.
Newlen is held on a $250,000 for rape and $5,000 for illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material.
"Children have enough friends, they need parents, they need discipline, they need parents that are willing to look into their phones and laptops and see who is communicating with them and what kind of information they are posting. Look at their facebooks, see who they are talking to," said Captain Jeff Waite, Marietta Police Department.
Captain Waite says parents need to remember to always be checking their children's phones because it is now a safety concern, especially with smart phones.
