A man's best friend, helping police keep the city safe, is now protected as well.
Marietta K-9's Diego and Ajax now have their own fitted bullet proof vests thanks to the non-profit group called, Vested Interest in K-9's.
Officers say they were contacted by the organization through Facebook, who wanted to help provide a vest for the dogs.
Through fundraising they provided about 200 K-9's around the country with safety vests to protect them in the line of duty.
"Any situation we have with an armed suspect or if we wanted to send them into a building search, this is going to protect the dog. It is better for his health," said Marietta Police Patrolman Glen McClelland.
Officers say the dogs are sometimes put in dangerous situations. In the past, one suspect tried to stab a dog with a screwdriver, he did not succeed.
McClelland says the dogs will be trained with the vests, so they become comfortable. He say these vests help keep the dogs much safer.
