Mayor Matthews attended the Ohio mayor's conference last week in Canton, Ohio. He attended classes and meetings about Ohio Public Works, income taxes and the new House Bill 5.
They listen to different speakers plus State Senator Sherrod Brown was with them via video. The mayor says the conference was very beneficial.
He wants to have the conference in Marietta next year and has already started proposing the idea. Previously, the conference was in Marietta in 1999 and 2003.
"First of all it's a good money maker for the city, people staying in hotels and motels, and also it's great for the merchants downtown, because people shop there, biggest thing is people love to come to Marietta, people have been here before and they come here," said Mayor Joe Matthews.
Mayor Matthews says as people were leaving they said, 'see you in Marietta next year' and he hopes it can be done.
