An independent blood bank is closing.
But what does that mean to area blood services?
The Memorial Health System says it will end its blood bank in the next couple of weeks.
But the Red Cross says it has worked with the system's hospitals, which include Marietta Memorial and Selby Hospitals.
It encourages those who have donated to its bank in the past to continue to do so at the Red Cross blood drives.
"We will certainly look to welcome those donors to those blood drives, as being additional donors to blood drives we already have, and hopefully get new sponsor contacts to have additional opportunities in the area," says Marianne Spampinato, with the American Red Cross.
In addition to frequent area blood drives, the Red Cross Keystone Blood Center has blood collections each Friday at its headquarters on Dudley Avenue.
