Mid-Ohio Valley Job Fair

In a time where the economy is struggling, it isn't always easy to find a job.

"I think it's a good thing for the area, I really do," says Barb Handschumacher, with American Legion Post 64. "I'm glad to see one here locally. I know there has been several around within an hour or so, but it's good to have one here in Marietta."

The Mid-Ohio Valley Job Fair took place in the junior fair building at the Washington County Fairgrounds Wednesday afternoon.

The first hour was reserved just for veterans and was sponsored by the Marietta Legion Post 64.

"This is really a hard hit area economically and anything we can do to support our veteran, the legion is right there behind them," says Handschumacher. "We are always willing to do anything to help out veterans and a job fair is the perfect way to help the economy and help them."

Then from 4 to 7 p.m. the general public came from all over to meet with many different employers.

"Its been a really good turn out," says Morgan Neuhart, with Sunny Acres Skilled Nursing Facility. "I go to a few of these and this has been the busiest one I've been to in a long time."

Job seekers of all ages came to talk with employers from the oil and gas industry, health care, customer service, banking, retail and higher-ed

"There a lot of different range of people here that I didn't know would be here," says Neuhart.

With many different fields and businesses present, job seekers say it was beneficial to show up and network, even if you didn't find that one perfect job.

"It can be frustrating to find jobs in the area, and even if you come down here and you don't find something that's for you, you might meet someone and they might know someone that you can get in contact with cause it's a tight knit community so networking helps," says Christian Hudspeth, of Marietta.

Organizers were very happy with the turn out and say employers had people filling out applications right there at the fair.

For people that missed the fair, organizers say you can always get help writing your resume and finding jobs with groups that are there to help, like Washington Morgan Community Action.
