Tourism brings a lot of money to our area. And now, Marietta tourism officials know how much.
The Marietta-Washington County Visitors and Convention bureau Monday released results of a survey of travelers who sought out travel information through its website.
More than half have visited Marietta in the past few years, and nearly two-thirds have been there in their lifetimes.
And they spent more then $10 million in the 2011 and 2012.
"When we get that money from city council and from the county commissioners, those dollars are used to promote and market the area," says Jeri Knowlton, the bureau's executive director. "That return on investment is $41.82."
The visitors bureau spent more than $240,000 to advertise the area and its attractions.
More than 60% of those surveyed gave high marks to their overall experience.
