A North Carolina pilot is dead after his plane crashed in a remote wooded area of Meigs County.
Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers say it happened Friday morning near Rutland, Ohio.
The pilot, 72 year old Gerald Chamberlain of Raeford, North Carolina crashed his plane and was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was flying a 2007 Escapade single engine fixed wing aircraft and was the only person in the plane.
witnesses say the plane's engine sounded like it was sputtering then went silent before they heard it go down.
Police say mechanical failure is most likely the cause, but the crash remains under investigation by the FAA.
