Ohio Speed Limit Increase

The speed limit is increasing to 60 miles an hour on State Route 7 from Marietta to Belpre.

Lt. Jason Norman with the Washington County Sheriff's Office says the change takes effect this Sunday, October 6.

Other rural roads in Ohio will increase by five miles as well, including U.S. 33 in Meigs County and U.S. 50 in Athens County from Washington County.

State Route 77 already increased to 70.

"What we'll ask drivers to be aware of is to maintain a safe distance from the car in front of you," Norman says. "Since you're going to increase your speed, your reaction time is obviously going to need to be increased also."

He says also try to avoid any distractions like playing with the radio, playing with or talking on your cellphone and texting.
