After a 17-year absence, the Parkersburg Sports Carnival is making a bold return.
Kim Griffey, director of the Parkersburg High School Red Wings has great nostalgia for the carnival she remembers all those years ago.
So it makes sense that she'd want to bring it back.
Griffey says all the proceeds go to support PHS, the Red Wings and other organizations at the school.
“Being an alum of Parkersburg High School and having participated in the original sports carnival that you mentioned, I thought it was really important for the students to have the opportunity to be involved in something as big and wonderful as this,” Griffey says.
She says back when the carnival was in full swing, the night began with intramurals and the second part of the evening was geared toward entertainment.
That's how they've modeled the return of the sports carnival.
Saturday night, April 20, is the big day at Memorial Field House, admission is five dollars.
