Weeks of fund raising have come to an end but the Parkersburg High School Big Red Marching Band won't be able to take its trip to New York City as hoped.
The Big Reds were supposed to be marching in the 92nd New York City Veteran's Day Parade, which not only honors Veteran's, but will also mark the 10th anniversary of September 11th.
Officials say funding for the trip fell just shy of what was needed and to recover deposit money the school had to cancel the trip a month in advance.
Principal Pam Goots says money raised can be saved for a different trip in the spring.
"There were some people who made contributions just for the trip to New York. And obviously, if they want that money back, we should do that," Principal Goots explains. "Other people, if they don't care, we would save the money and publicize the trip they would take in the spring."
Principal Goots says she was disappointed to have to cancel the trip but anyone who may knows of a competition for the band to compete in should contact the school.
