An altercation between a parent and a school principal lands the parent in jail today.

The Marietta Police Departments says Mark Swaney approached Marietta Middle School's principal, William Hampton, with concerns Monday afternoon.

While confronting Hampton in the school parking lot, police say Swaney put his hands on the Principal twice trying to keep him from going inside.

"When alerted that the police would be coming, the man walked away, got in his car, pulled out and accelerated rapidly and headed towards the principal and five to ten feet before he got to him, they veered away and fled," explains Marietta Police Captain Jeff Waite.

Swaney is being charged with aggravated menacing for aggressively driving his car toward Hampton.
