Parkersburg City Budget One Step Closer to Approval

By  |

In a 5-4 vote the Parkersburg city budget passed to go before council at the next meeting.

The council also voted to amend the budget by moving $55,000 from the Maintenance Reserve Fund to the Memorial Bridge Fund.

The city is required by the state to put away money into this fund for the eventual demolition of the bridge.

Very few council members raised questions about the current proposed budget.

"So you know it was a very smooth budget. There was only really two or three real questions about it and it passed basically as presented so I'm satisfied with that. And I said the council will have two more opportunities to discuss it. Any of the four that voted not to send it so soon to Charleston have any questions they still have two opportunities to do so," says Parkersburg Mayor Bob Newell.

There will be a public hearing for anyone to voice their opinions.

It must pass two more readings to be sent to the state.
