Parkersburg Teen Charged with First Degree Robbery

An 18-year-old Parkersburg man is charged with first degree robbery after police say he held another man at gunpoint and took his money and phone.

Parkersburg Police arrested Richard P. Miller Jr. Friday morning.

They say a Mineral Wells man was a passenger in a parked-car shortly after 7 a.m. at the Erickson Sports Facility. That's when Miller walked-up to the car and pointed a handgun at the man.

Police say Miller made the man get out of the car, hand-over his cash and cell phone, and then Miller took-off in the car with the woman who had been in the vehicle with the victim. Police say those two know each other.

Moments later, a sheriff's deputy spotted them on Gihon Rd. near the 7-Eleven. That's were Parkersburg Police caught up to Miller.

"It's unfortunate, being that young, taking part in a significant case like that. The violence, it seems to be more accepted I guess with the younger generation," said Chief Joe Martin.

Police searched the getaway vehicle and found the stolen cell phone. Chief Martin says more arrests are likely.

Miller is being held without bond. He'll appear in circuit court at a later date.
