If there was an emergency and cell phone service wasn't available would you have a way to communicate and get help?
That's exactly what members of the Parkersburg Amateur Radio Klub are practicing on their annual field day, Saturday.
Members say the event allows them to sharpen their skills and spend time with fellow HAMs-- as they call themselves.
"We're gaining knowledge," says Connie Hamilton, fellow HAM. "But the HAMs get together and we do parades and road shows and we work any place that we are asked to. We are volunteers, and we cannot take any money for our operation, and it's just a fun hobby that I have gotten into."
The field day exercises are at Fort Boreman Park through Sunday and everyone is encouraged to head up to the park and talk to the HAM's about amateur radio.
