It is the one hundred fiftieth anniversary of when Ohio militia troops landed in Parkersburg marking the first hostile invasion of the Civil War.
Participants in the event dressed up as Civil War soldiers and re-enacted the events that took place on May 27th, 1861.
"The Civil war is very important to this area. We became a state during the Civil War, and if we forget that we're in bad shape as far as the state goes. You forget your history, you've forgotten everything," says Civil War participant, Jim Miracle.
Spectators of all ages enjoyed the days events featuring the Parkersburg High School Big Red Band playing patriotic music and canon shots into the Ohio River.
