They escort the military in good times and bad.
The Patriot Guard Thursday escorted the soldiers of the 779th Engineer Company.
It's all to honor the men and women in uniform, whether they're military, first responders or law enforcement.
The inspiration for the riders was the reception all too many soldiers got when they came home from Vietnam.
"We do it especially because of the way the Vietnam veterans were treated. The veterans and non-military, too all say, 'never again will a veteran be treated that way'," says Carl Spade, Ride Captain.
The Patriot Guard also serves as escorts during the funerals of fallen soldiers.
Next week it escorts the traveling Vietnam wall, when it goes on display at Parkersburg City Park.
