Getting ready for a big celebration.
The state of West Virginia's 150th birthday is this June, and local communities plan big events.
Vienna plans a parade, and Parkersburg has events especially for children, planned for the log cabin at City Park.
Both cities plan to line their streets with West Virginia flags, and organizers hope for more observances in the three months prior to the big day.
"We're also going to coordinate with the county commission here and the city of Parkersburg, to plant a sugar maple tree here," says Judy Parrish, Program Chair and First Vice-President of the Parkersburg Women's Club. "We will also finalize things like a poster contest, a T-shirt design. Many things are in the planning stage, yes."
The West Virginia Division of Culture and History has a sesquicentennial exhibit all year long at the cultural center in Charleston.
