It's a red-letter day for Pleasants County, as the Board of Education confirmed contractors for the new high school construction.
The Board of Education unanimously approved all five recommended winning bids for site preparation, general trades, fire suppression gear, electrical, plumbing and HVAC installation.
The new school will be built on the site of the old Board of Education land and is expected to be completed by December 2014.
"We passed a bond for 23.5 million for the new St. Marys High School, and we were within a couple hundred thousand dollars with our bids," explains Michael Wells. " We are very excited about that and so we will include actually everything we wanted-- which included the alternates that sometimes you have to get ride of to meet your financial obligations. So we're excited we're going to get to do everything we wanted to."
The contractors were to meet at a Pre-Construction meeting Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. to sign the contracts.
A ground breaking ceremony will be scheduled for a later date, possibly with a week or two.
