Poker Run Helps Kids In Need Celebrate Christmas Early

Christmas came a little early for kids in Beverly as the American Legion riders from post 389 geared up for their annual toy run.

"It's a group of guys from the American Legion riders came up with just doing the toy run. They've been doing it for years and we got back to it four years ago doing it, just trying to do something for the community, for those needy children, Kevin Sams.

Riders and Santa Clause himself start off the day with a poker run in Lowell. Then they head to Beverly, delivering toys to area organizations.

Les Wolfe says, "well it's all about the kids you know, I mean we love to help the kids. It's for a good cause."

"I was always fortunate to have a great Christmas and I just hope every other child can have that as well, says Rhonda Beebe.

Sherri Lane adds, "it's a good thing to give back to the community and to those less fortunate. You want to see every child have a wonderful Christmas."

Most importantly, the kids enjoy seeing Santa and receiving the gifts

People at the event could pay ten dollars or bring in a new toy to help the kids have a Christmas they deserve.

"It's a chance for the community to give back to the community. It's a chance for us to get together, sort of get a ride in before the bad weather hits," says Sams.

All of the funds collected are donated evenly between the Washington County Action Secret Santa Program and The Morgan County United Ministries.
