UPDATE: Marietta Police Say Man Stabbed Himself

Weeks ago we told you about a man stabbed in Marietta.

Now Marietta Police release what their investigation uncovered.

Marietta Police Captain Jeff Waite says Scott Shankland stabbed himself.

Shankland originally told police a white man in a large gray car jumped out and stabbed him as he was walking.

Captain Waite says after re-interviewing him, he admitted stabbing himself, saying his life was in turmoil and he wanted attention.

He stabbed himself three times, but did not penetrate his body.

Shankland faces falsification charges.

He is free on bond.

Marietta Police are investigating a stabbing Thursday afternoon at the Ridgewood Court Apartments in Marietta.

Police say Scott Allen Shankland was stabbed with a knife.

When police arrived on scene they found Shankland on the ground with a stab wound in his lower left abdomen.

He was conscious when he was taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital for surgery around 2 p.m. Thursday.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office K-9 is assisting police in locating the knife.

Police are searching for the suspect in a stabbing that happened Thursday in Marietta.

Police say a man was found on the ground with a stab wound at the Ridgewood Court Apartments.

They say he was stabbed with a knife in the lower left abdomen.

The victim was conscious when he was taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital for surgery around 2 p.m. Thursday.

Police say the suspect is a tall, white male with a thin build and dark hair.

He could be in a large gray car.

A K-9 is assisting police in locating the knife.

Anyone with information should call the Marietta Police Department at (740) 376-2007.

Authorities are investigating a stabbing in Marietta.

According to police, a man was found on the ground at a Marietta apartment complex with a stab wound.
