813 pieces and more than 5,000 pounds.

The world's largest drum set is on display at Rock Church in Parkersburg.

"I’ve been building this for almost 40 years, designing it and just adding pieces on,” says Dr. Mark Temperato, of upstate New York.

It's definitely a topic of conversation.

"People don't know what to think,” says Associate Pastor Dennis Morgan. “They're like, 'my gosh, what is an 800 piece drum set doing in West Virginia.’”

Anything can inspire him.

"As the sounds sort of hit me or I see something,” Temperato says. “I always say I play for the audience of one; everyone else gets the overflow."

Hearing Temperato play -- "It’s just incredible and people don't really know exactly what comes next," Morgan says.

A rock and rock reverend smashes the record for the world's biggest drum kit and he's right here in Parkersburg.

"When Guinness world records flew in from London twice -- they came in our auditorium, they're still like 100 feet away and their jaws dropped,” Temperato says.

There are different representations of church.

"But when people come here, they have an opportunity to see the world class drum set being played by a pastor,” Morgan says.

The instruments are endless.

"I have hundreds of cymbals, lots of drums, a lot of percussion,” Temperato says. “I have the largest symphonic gong in the world."

It's all in the family.

"My mother played a little bit of drums, and her brother were all musicians and both my brothers are drummers, and I have a couple of sons that are drummers,” Temperato says.

There's a message.

"From how he sings, how he plays, to how he preaches; it's all connected,” Morgan says.

People have never seen anything like it.

According to Temperato, he loves doing it, playing it, showin' the different sounds it can make -- so people get encouraged, healed, strengthened, blessed.

“Ya know, music is a powerful source,” he says.

If you want to see the drum set for yourself, scheduled tours for schools and private parties are available by appointment only. Call Rock Church at 304-422-9605.

Temperato will also be playing on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays.

813 pieces and more than 5,000 pounds.

The world's largest drum set is on display at Rock Church in Parkersburg.

Dr. Mark Temperato of upstate New York is the proud owner of the massive drum set.

He's been building it for almost 40 years.

It's a mixture of drums, cymbals, percussion and the largest symphonic gong.

Even the Guinness Book of World Records came calling.

"When Guinness World Records flew in from London twice, when they came in our auditorium, they're still like 100 feet away and their jaws dropped and all three of them stood there and said, 'wow'," Temperato says.

He says it's very encouraging Guinness likes it that much.

People are just really blown away by the drums no matter what age they are.
