There will likely be a new name on the Democratic side in November, in the race for Parkersburg City Council's district four.
James Myers, who previously representated that district and was a candidate for the seat this year, died over the weekend at the age of 70.
Myers is being remembered as a hard worker for his district, and an advocate for the Parkersburg Skatepark, which finally opened last September.
"I think he was involved in getting that started when that was something people weren't talking about," district six councilman Mike Reynolds recalled Tuesday. "He pushed for support from Senator (Donna) Boley and also other council people."
Harold Brown, chairman of the Parkersburg Democratic party, says a replacement for Myers' spot on the fall ballot will likely be chosen next month.
The next meeting of the Democratic Executive Committee is scheduled for August ninth.
