The West Virginia Division of Highways says high winds, not a landslide, caused a tree to fall, partially blocking Route 21 in Rockport Wednesday night.
A tree slid down a hillside blocking one lane of the road. There was concern about the possibility of a landslide in that area from nearly an inch of rain that fell throughout the day.
Rusty Roten, District Engineer, tells WTAP high winds caused a tree to topple. There had been concern Wednesday night that the hillside might give way. Roten says the situation is being monitored but doesn't expect any further problems.
Route 21 was completely open to traffic as of Thursday morning.
