Safe Route to School Construction Begins

By  |

Students at McKinley Elementary School in Parkersburg will soon safely roam the sidewalks near the school.

The City of Parkersburg received a Safe Route to School grant from the West Virginia Department of Transportation in 2010.

This week, city crews are putting the grant to action near the school.

They're installing new five foot wide sidewalks including curbs, drainage improvements and ADA approved ramps on both sides of 18th Street from St. Marys to Market Street.

New pedestrian crossings will be marked and six new traffic control devices are being installed.

The construction just started and will continue for about four to six months.
