Saying Good Bye To A Respected Fire Chief

Family and friends say their final goodbyes to Vienna Fire Chief Danny Goodwin at a funeral service Saturday morning.

Fire departments and police officers throughout the valley gathered at the Wayside United Methodist Church in Vienna.

The 67-year-old Fire Chief died late Monday night after being hospitalized before Christmas.

The service was followed by a procession which went down several streets in Vienna, including 28th Street where the fire station is located.

His colleagues and friends say he is an inspiration to everyone.

"My first encounter with Danny was I sat in my personal first fire class in Vienna Fire Department, it's been more than 20 years ago. And that's how I remember Danny, it's leading me in the fire service," says Parkersburg Fire Chief, Eric Taylor.

The procession also made its way to the burial site near Weston.

Parkersburg, Williamstown, and Springfield Valley were among the many fire departments in attendance.
