Wood county Sheriff Jeff Sandy is warning residents of a scam targeting grandparents and the elderly in the Mid Ohio Valley.
The Wood county sheriff's office is working with the Toronto police department's fraud squad.
The scam is where a person posing as a Canadian law enforcement officer calls an elderly person advising them that their grandchild has been stopped and arrested and money is needed to allow them to cross the border back into the United States.
They ask you to wire transfer the money.
Most recently a Belpre woman was scammed for $11,000.
If you think you've been a victim of this scam, call the police.
