Newcomers of the Parkersburg Fire Department got to experience some real life situations Wednesday afternoon.
The fire department held its search and rescue training inside a vacant building downtown.
Firefighters learned some techniques on how to search and rescue someone in case of a fire.
Experienced firemen were there giving the beginners some pointers on what to look for during the training session.
"In these training situations, we try to increase the stress factor so that it closely matches what they might find on a fire or rescue situation so that they learn to deal with that stress. They learn to block the normal stress factors that people face," says Parkersburg Fire Department Captain, Craig Wix Jr.
Feeling their way out of a fire and communicating with one another were among the techniques the new firefighters gained experience in.
